NFPA certification is only where we start!
Ricochet manufactures personal protective equipment (PPE) in an ISO 9001 certified facility in Philadelphia, PA. To meet NFPA 1999, 1951 & 1971 standards, Ricochet garments undergo numerous tests designed to guarantee durability and effectiveness of the barriers to liquid and liquid-borne pathogen penetration under the extreme conditions these barriers may face in the field. As tough as the NFPA standards are, creating PPE that is just “good enough” to meet the NFPA certification is not good enough for Ricochet. That’s why we engineer clothing that goes above and beyond the requirements of NFPA 1999, 1951 and 1971.
All sewn seams of the barrier component of each garment are heat-welded, using specially designed equipment. This process ensures the integrity of the barrier, allowing performance levels that meet or exceed the specific and exacting requirements of the NFPA Standards. Ricochet uses GORE-SEAM® tape, the most durable waterproof seam tape available, to seal all the tiny sewing holes in CROSSTECH® components of our garments.

Part of the Ricochet Maximum Mobility™series.
When the United States Air Force needed to replace their turnout gear, Ricochet was there to answer the call. Working directly with the United States Air Force on their own very detailed specification, together with Ricochet’s valuable feedback and suggestions, over a period of several months we worked to design full sets of structural fire gear to the USAF that exceeded their expectations.
This US Air Force structural gear utilizes the Ricochet Maximum Mobility™ design, with combined top quality fabrics and trims required in the detailed specifications developed by the USAF over years of research and experience. In one of our proudest moments we were awarded and continue to exclusively provide structural fire gear to the United States Air Force. In 2010, a special program was developed to provide safe, standardized, and cost-effective PPE for U.S. Army Firefighters. Ricochet was called on to assist in the creation and replacement of the structural fire gear in the FIRES program, and we proudly answered the challenge!
Ricochet’s U.S. Army FIRES structural gear was developed to meet the specific requirements of the U.S. Army including protection from physical hazards, flame resistance, and a liquid barrier to protect against chemical and bloodborne pathogen exposures while limiting the heat stress and load on the wearer. The garments are certified to NFPA 1971, Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting.
